Sinkhole Repair Design
Engineered grouting and underpinning plans to stabilize homes and sites after a sinkhole is confirmed. Typical US fees run $2,000 to $15,000, and most projects take 2 to 6 weeks. Our drawings, calculations and reports are sealed by a Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in the state where your project is located, ready for permit submission.

What the work involves
Once an investigation confirms sinkhole activity, a geotechnical engineer designs stabilization, commonly compaction grouting to densify loose soils and fill voids, chemical grouting near the surface, and underpinning with piers. The plan specifies injection locations, depths, volumes and pressures, with monitoring and post-repair verification.
When you need it

- Repair contractor needs engineered scope
- Previous repair failed
What you receive
- Repair plan
- Grout points and depths
- Underpinning design
- Monitoring and completion report
What drives the cost
Estimate for engineering; repair construction is separate and can be substantial.
Frequently asked questions
How much does sinkhole Repair Design cost?
Across the US, sinkhole Repair Design usually costs $2,000 to $15,000. Estimate for engineering; repair construction is separate and can be substantial.
How long does sinkhole Repair Design take?
Plan on 2 to 6 weeks from signed proposal to stamped deliverables, longer if a site visit, soil testing or a permit review cycle is involved.
Do I need a licensed PE for sinkhole Repair Design?
In most US jurisdictions, yes. When the work needs a permit, the plans, calculations or report usually must be sealed by a Professional Engineer licensed in the state where the project is located. Every deliverable we issue for permit is sealed that way.
Will I also need a geotechnical engineer?
Sometimes. Depending on the site, sinkhole Repair Design can also involve a geotechnical engineer, grouting contractor or professional geologist. We tell you up front which other professionals your project needs and coordinate with them so the drawings agree.
Who do you provide sinkhole Repair Design for?
Most of our clients for this service are homeowners, insurers and attorneys. Describe your project and one of our engineers will reply with scope, fee and schedule.
What is compaction grouting?
Injecting a stiff, low-slump grout under pressure through pipes to densify loose or raveled soils and fill voids above limestone. It is the most common Florida sinkhole stabilization method.
Are cracks fixed during stabilization?
No. Cosmetic and structural repairs to walls and floors are done after the ground is stabilized and movement has stopped.
Will insurance pay for sinkhole repair?
It depends on the policy and state law. In Florida, standard policies cover catastrophic ground cover collapse, while broader sinkhole loss coverage is optional, and statutes set testing and repair procedures.
How is the repair verified?
The engineer reviews grout logs against the plan and may require post-grouting testing or monitoring before issuing a completion report. Keep the completion report for resale and insurance.
