What the work involves

For a commercial, retail, office, industrial or multifamily project, the civil engineer prepares the site plan set: layout, grading and drainage, stormwater management, water and sewer utilities, erosion control, paving, and details. The engineer submits to the city or county, answers review comments, and coordinates with architects, surveyors, traffic engineers and utility providers. Civil fees on commercial work are often a percentage of construction cost or a lump sum by phase.
