What the work involves

Many jurisdictions and utilities require as-built (record) drawings showing what was actually installed: pipe inverts, structure locations, pond volumes, grades and pavement. A surveyor collects the data and the engineer compares it to the approved design, certifies compliance, and documents any changes. As-builts are often required for certificate of occupancy, bond release and acceptance of public utilities.
